It’s always a little nostalgic when you sell your house. It’s time for us to move on, but I’m dreading it. I will miss this house. When we bought it seven years ago, we claimed we were never leaving. Now we no longer own our own home; we’re just tenants. And although we’ve bid on another house, our future is still somewhat uncertain.
I’m sitting at the kitchen table drinking hot tea, tired, still sick, and a little blah. The cardboard boxes mock me from the next room. What? You think we’re going to pack ourselves? I’m strongly considering just throwing everything out, and only packing kitchen items, food, and clothing. I swear we had three kids, and somehow our stuff multiplied by ten… Thousand.
Suddenly, the Ballerina Princess Monster comes running into the kitchen, all excited and yelling. “Mommy, I have something for you! It’s a present! Open it Mommy! Open it!” She throws the “present” right in the middle of the table. And there it is, in all its fluorescent peach goodness, a maxi-pad!
Apparently, I also have some things I might need to pack up in the bathroom.

Cutest story. Plan to sell my house soon. Should be weird. I had different “independence” plans when I bought it and it turns out I’m not afraid not to be alone anymore. Good luck getting everything ready and don’t forget the rest of your pads!
Ack! Since my OB is not a fan of voluntary surgeries, I suppose I’ll have to keep those maxipads…
Good luck to you too! This market is not a great one… Didn’t you live in England for a couple years alone? That sounds pretty independent to me!
Hahaha. The first time I visited a friend’s house, there were tampons on her floor. Her four-year-old had been using them as finger puppets. She was so mortified, lol. Children are fun little creatures, aren’t they? I hope your move goes okay – I know moving is hell. If there’s a next time I might just leave all the stuff if I can get away with it . . .
They are beautifully unpredictable, yes. Thanks, and I’m only half kidding. We have a lot of stuff no one would miss…
Wow, talk about a present. At least it’s practical.
That is the one good thing about moving. Although it’s a pain, it is a good way to rid oneself of years of accumulations.
I know, right? Yeah, that is the one good thing about moving, but with the holidays coming up, it doesn’t really matter how much I throw out….
Interesting present, but like Carrie said very practical.
Good luck with the move.
Thanks! We need whatever luck we can get. Still hoping this new house deal goes through. Contract is being drawn as we speak.
Great!
Kids ‘er FUNny! lol
Yeaaap. As a former brat I’ve done the “cardboard box’n'duct tape exodus” more times than I liked to. I always loved it, always hated it, and always learned a little something each time too. The house is just a shell. You get to pack the memories with you. It’s like a traveling circus. Without the scary clowns.
Plus, spare duct tape is GRREAAAAT for shutting up brothers who like to yak in the car the WHOLE way to your family’s new “promised land! ” (Until Mommy finds out, that is!)
Exactly. Though I’m pretty sure I’d be arrested if I did what I wanted to do with the duct tape… you know tape the dog to the roof of the car! Ha!
Sounds so real! I red blogs when procrastinating, lol! Wishing you well on the move. =>
Yeah, I do some of that too… also twitter…
Kotex says “I love you and will be there when you bleed”
Does it also sing Alice Cooper to me?
It can – depends on where you buy it….

One of the best Carlin skits ever!
That is a great skit! It’s great when you find comedy skit that are still funny a gazillion years later…Wait, am I allowed to say that? Oh, well. Just did.
I just moved into a new house and so understand how you are feeling. Moving nostalgia and anxiety is the worst even when you know that the move is good, and right for you and for your family. Good luck!
Thanks Samantha. Well, the one good thing is it’ll all be over soon enough!
On the other hand, if that gift doesn’t snap you out of your funk…
I know! And she was SO excited about it…
Moving brings out the minimalist in us all. We are going to be moving some time in the New Year and I am already throwing things out in preparation. I can’t believe how much stuff we have; kids are like the ocean garbage patch of stuff. Flotsam and jetsam everywhere!
That’s exactly it! And most of it’s about as useful as flotsam and jetsam too! Good luck to you too.
Praying for blessings…and people to help you move!!
Thank you. We are still trying to figure all of that out.
I love to move, but I hate packing. I always end up breaking or losing stuff, and it takes me at least three months to fully unpack.
I used to be fast, but our last two moves it’s taken me over a month to unpack. This time may go faster, but only because I plan on throwing everything into a dumpster beforehand!
